Blue Silo Aquaculture intends to operate in the Gulf of Mexico using idle offshore oil and gas platforms as operating bases.
Reused Offshore Infrastructure
Blue Silo Aquaculture is one of many businesses and operations that intend to take advantage of existing Gulf of Mexico energy infrastructure that have been in place for decades. (ref: www.gulfoffshoreresearch.com) These platforms have many years of useful life remaining, long after hydrocarbon production ceases, providing space for multiple operations concurrently
Integrated Multi Trophic Aquaculture
Blue Silo Aquaculture intends to commercialize the production of finfish, shellfish and algae in a symbiotic, sustainable and regenerative manner which creates a better product for the benefit of the consumers in the United States. By using existing energy infrastructure our carbon footprint is minimized by 1) not expending energy to remove or relocate the platforms and 2) not building new installations. The platforms we reutilize will provide a hub for aquaculture operations providing platform space for biologists, accommodations, feed storage and delivery systems, all support utilities, laboratory space and potentially for nursery operations.
Food Source For The U.S
The Gulf coast area of the United States is well known for the availability of fresh seafood. However, over 80% of the seafood consumed in the United States is imported. Blue Silo Aquaculture intends to do its part by supplying fresh, sustainable protein sources to meet the demands of U.S. consumers.
